Harisnya is the male hosiery enthusiast behind e-manicipate.org and hosierymarketing.com, and the originator of the article on Wikipedia on pantyhose for men. He has already written several times on this site, and I am very pleased to welcome this latest contribution from him. - G.
I think we are winning the "Nylon War".
The recent developments at Gerbe and NoNonsense are more than promising. Both are traditional giants compared to those who are already producing male pantyhose (MPH).
What does it mean? Go to the Gerbe page, and you will find the best fashion photos ever taken about men wearing nylons. Why? At these corporations even the smallest steps cost more than our yearly personal budget. They cannot allow themselves not to be professionals. These corporations are high-quality sales-marketing machines with long-long track records. Once they accept an input, they will use all and every channels and tools to sell what they decided to sell.
They will start with small online sections and slowly move to the offline world - with promo articles and fashion shows first; online advertisements second; then they will go offline and in two or three years we will see the first billboard with a nice guy wearing pantyhose.
I bet you we will see this. Maybe not where we live, but thanks to the net, someone will post a photo on LAUF or here at Geraden, or at a future forum. I bet you at twenty pairs of the most expensive and luxury Comfilon male pantyhose that these large companies - carefully watched by competitors of a falling market - will finish the revolution that started back in 1995-96 with the closed L'eggs forum and the famous Geocities forum; was realised by Steve Katz in 1998; and was followed by small EU manufacturers in the early 00's.
They have the power to use the right tools, and they know how to do it. They will finish the job this time, when, compared to the 70's, information is running much faster than the ladder on our pantyhose.
So this is the moment we've been waiting for. Or at least I hope so. Please buy as many Comfilons as you can afford right now, because tomorrow you might find an overwhelming flow of male pantyhose from mainstream hosiery manufacturers.
Hello Geraden and others,
For the "fetish" part, has been my main gripe.
The porn industry has shown males in nylons, like BDSM,to get their jollies.
This includes the "Rocky Horror Picture
Show".
Most of us, are not like that.
But then, on the other hand, we have the one's that were serious about
wearing. Those associations with males on the porn sites, didn't make any
legitamacy for public wearing. It only served to show as a "fetish
wear",with no real reason. That's why many can't disconnect the "fetish"
part.
With the real companies actually showing males wearing nylons, that
the other association can now be disconnected.
I am happy, that "No Nonsense", and "Gerbe" has taken the steps,to remove
the "fetish" part.Steve Katz, has also done his part.I didn't want to leave
him out.
So, a big thanks to Steve,"No Nonsense" and "Gerbe".
There's others I've missed like "WoMAN".
Just glad, that these companies are turning the tide.
It's about time.
Gerbe is bringing out its men's pantyhose line in March. See Yahoo News.
Routes to the mainstream need to be walked one step at a time.
What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
In other words, what's suitable for a woman is suitable for a man too, I
Believe So.
Siva - sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander does not always apply
when it comes to clothing, or we would have men's bras! It is also a weak
argument, although it is often brought up, to maintain that men wore tights
first. What we are talking about today is men wearing a women's garment
that has only been available for about 50 years on the assumption it has
become/is becoming unisex. What men wore 300 years ago isn't really
relevant, so I don't think women could be said to have copied it from men.
Finally, you are bringing up the men having a feminine side argument, but
this is tantamount to admitting that men wearing tights is cross-dressing,
i.e. a feminine element in a man is wearing feminine clothing. Isn't this
the very reason it is so often vehemently rejected?
No doubt the whole flurry of discussion of this topic will continue, but it
does seem some very weak arguments in favour of men wearing keep being
repeated that are unlikely ever to change the public perception of this.
